The Dollyrots: Spring Break from Reality Tour
Concerts are a magical place. They bring people together for a few hours on a weeknight, where new friendships are formed or previous ones reunited, brought together by a show.
And that is exactly what happened Friday night.
The Dollyrots brought their Spring Break From Reality Tour to Small’s on March 20th, the first day of Spring 2026. The tour features Keep Flying, a New York based ska punk band with a dash of some harsher vocals. Joining them for the evening as local support, your favorite internet dads, Bathroom of the Future.
“Who wants to talk about Star Wars” says Tim, the guitarist/vocalist of Bathroom of the Future before they open with their song Star Wars 2. Their set was full of nerd humor, from staying up late to watch the shows with the bad words [Adult Swim] to incorporating the Terminator theme with one of their older ones. What happens when Terminator gets combined with Maze of Noise? You get MAZINATOR.
I confess, Keep Flying was a band I had not listened to before that night. But as soon as I saw brass and woodwind I knew it was going to be a good time. 2026 also marks their 10 year bandaversary, and they’re celebrating with a nearly month-long tour beginning May 1st in Virginia. More information can be found here.
Their set was great - their energy was infectious and the person I was standing by was living their best life and dancing and lipsyncing the entire time. Heck yeah.
Before I can talk about The Dollyrots, I need to take a sidequest. After Keep Flying’s set I was getting back to the corner of the stage, the lights were on and I was looking at the group that had kindly been letting me stand near them throughout the night to get some shots. One of them looked so familiar to me, and I couldn’t figure out why. And then I didn’t want to be wrong, because wow how embarrassing. But I had the strangest feeling we knew each other and not from concerts. I finally spoke up and looked at her “I am so sorry, but is your last name *bleep*?”
It was! She was my elementary school teacher. It turns out she and her husband are huge fans of The Dollyrots and have seen them six times. Live music is so magical.
Alright back to the main quest. If you read the sidequest you get +5 XP, use them how you see fit.
The Dollyrots have got to be the most wholesome punk band in the world. I love how goofy they can be on stage and how positive their songs are. Seriously, if you’re ever having a bad brain day just listen to their song Because I’m Awesome. It’s helped me on more than one occasion.
Between songs there were fun back and forths between bassist/lead vocalist Kelly and guitarist Luis. At one point Kelly was making sound effects for what she was doing. Luis lightheartedly made a comment about it and I must say, I am fully Team Kelly on this. Make the sound effects, make life as whimsy as possible.
Enough words - it’s picture time!

my feelings about not being able to try the cheese are just like it: blue
Oh hey - you’re still here.
Let’s chat a moment about the greatest mystery of the evening: this cheese.
WHERE DID IT COME FROM?
How long had it been sitting there?
Why did the person who had it have it to begin with?
What does it taste like?
Is it still safe to eat?
Is it worth the risk..?
I left the thoughts on the table with the cheese and walked away.
